The Italian Embassy posted to their Twitter page a photograph of their Ambassador to Croatia laying flowers for the victims at the Jasenovac Memorial. In the caption attached with the photo, they expressed “solidarity with the Croatian people”.

During World War II, a genocide of Serbs, Jews and the Romani was carried out in the Independent State of Croatia by the Croat Ustasha regime.

Italy and Croatia were allied with Nazi Germany, and German occupiers were enthusiastically welcomed in Croatia and seen as saviors.
