United States Senator Chris Murphy, who visited the Balkans between April 19 and April 23 along with Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis, has published his impressions and certain details of the visit to his blog.

In the section where he describes the visit to Belgrade, Murphy signed out the interesting conclusion of the meeting with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić:

No longer will the European Union — of which Serbia wants to become a member — let Vučić sit in both chairs. He is going to have to choose, and over the course of the hour, we pushed Vučić on several short-term steps he could make toward the right choice.

“Call me in sixty days,” he told us as the meeting broke. “Check to see if I’ve done what I am telling you I will do.”

As the pressure increases on Serbia to join the sanctions imposed on Russia by the West, the question of what President Vučić promised to Senator Murphy presents itself.

President Vučić has postponed his address to the nation, originally planned for today, Friday, May 6.
