The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković thanked Brazil today for the country’s position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, their commitment to consistently abiding by the international law, and their full use of legally binding international documents.

In his meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Brazil, Jose Mauro da Fonseca Costa Couto, Selaković particularly pointed out the support that this country has shown to us in the United Nations, stressing the importance of the fact that at the recent United Nations Security Council session regarding the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), the delegation of Brazil made a connection between achieving peace and stability in our southern province and the full application of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1244, communicated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.

The Minister added that the fact that in this session Brazil also called for the full implementation of the Brussels Agreement is of the utmost importance for Serbia.

Selaković said that our bilateral relations are characterized by a high degree of understanding and support on key issues, stating that Serbia is committed to improving overall relations with Brazil.

The Minister pointed out that it is necessary to intensify political dialogue at high and highest levels, inviting the Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Alberto Franco França to visit Serbia.

He also stressed the importance of regular dialogue between both countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs, stating our preparedness to host bilateral political consultations in Belgrade this year.

Selaković and his guest considered our economic collaboration, which is currently far below the potential of both countries and not keeping up with the high level of political relations between Serbia and Brazil.
