The Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija has decided to cease all contact with the Kosovo* authorities due to, as they said, the violation of the rule of the law and the community’s freedom of religion, as well as the open ethnically- and religiously-based discrimination towards the Serbian Orthodox Church, said the Twitter account of the Visoki Dečani Monastery.

The Visoki Dečani Monastery said that the Serbian Orthodox Church has cautioned international representatives about the necessity of special protection mechanisms, in the situation where the Kosovo* government is openly disrespecting judicial decisions and signed agreements guaranteed by the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OEBS) in the special protected zones of religious cultural heritage.

The Serbian Orthodox Church cited a published report by the United States Department of State on the freedom of religion in Kosovo in 2021, where the United States criticized the fact that the decision of the Kosovo* Constitutional Court about restoring property to the Visoki Dečani Monastery was not being implemented.
