The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has confirmed that Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Montenegro did not grand permission for the aircraft carrying Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov to use their airspace. Lavrov was set to visit Belgrade on June 6 and 7, announced Interfax agency, reported the Radio Television of Serbia.

Lavrov’s visit to Serbia has been canceled after the countries neighboring Serbia closed their airspace to his airplane, a high-ranking source within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said yesterday to the journalistic agency Interfax.

The Russian agency stated that the diplomat’s answer to the precise question of whether that was the reason for the cancellation of Lavrov’s visit to Serbia was: “Our diplomacy has not yet mastered the ability of teleportation”.

At the same time, Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said to the Italian TV La7 that Serbia’s neighboring countries have closed their airspace for Minister Lavrov’s flight, but Russia, unlike the European Union, will not erect an iron curtain.
