Today, at the start of the meeting of the leaders of the “Open Balkan” Initiative in Ohrid, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said that it is an initiative of the people from the Balkans and expressed his belief that an increasing number of citizens of North Macedonia, Serbia and Albania, as well as other countries in the region, will support the initiative.

“This is our initiative, an initiative of the people from the Balkans, those who understand that they must connect and that they must resolve their problems on their own. Everything we have done, in the economy, and everything that matters to the citizens, is reflected in the relations between North Macedonia, Serbia and Albania. We have virtually no open bilateral issues, we have no demands for anybody, except to be friends and work in the best interest of our citizens,” said Vučić.

He particularly thanked the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi for attending the summit in support of the initiative.

Vučić pointed out that the “Open Balkan” initiative is an unstoppable feat, a good idea, that will have more and more supporters. He also presented his proposal for strengthening cooperation ahead of the winter, and stressed the importance of picking up speed on common projects.

President Vučič emphasized that common cooperation and progress are the only thing that nobody can prevent, “as it depends directly on us”.

He thanked the United States of America for supporting “Open Balkan”, and thanked the Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović and the President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zoran Tegeltija, who are in Ohrid today, and expressed hope that another summit may be held in one of those countries by the end of the year.
