Member of the European Parliament Viola von Cramon said today that if Serbia wishes to join the European Union, it will have to impose sanctions on Russia and recognize the independence of Kosovo*.

“It is not an “if”. We are aware of the difficulties regarding that [imposing sanctions on Russia], [President of Serbia Aleksandar] Vučić explained everything, but regardless of that, we have to see Serbia’s commitment to face the sanctions against Russia, for a start, and their dependence on Russian energy materials,” said Viola von Cramon to the Nova magazine.

To achieve a final agreement, she added, the European Union will also expect a recognition of the independence of Kosovo*.

“The Kosovo* side also has obligations — to implement the court decision on the Dečani Monastery, to prepare a draft of the plan for forming the Association of Serbian Municipalities,” said Von Cramon.
