The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stated that it was not his duty to grant wishes, as an answer to a question about whether he would grant the United States Ambassador in Belgrade Christopher Hill’s wish for the new government of Serbia to be pro-Western. Vučić added that Serbia would not be extinguishing its traditional friendships on anyone’s request.

“I am not here to grant wishes. The people and the citizens have elected to have a Serbian government which will take care of Serbian interests. I am pleased that Ambassador Hill has said that he would not interfere in the appointment of ministers,” said Vučić to the press.

“We make decisions in our own best interest. Serbia is on the European path and it will continue on that path, but Serbia will preserve its values and will not be extinguishing its traditional friendships on anyone’s request,” concluded Vučić, reported Sputnik.

The traditional friendship in question is certainly the historical friendship between Serbia and Russia.
