The Day of Remembrance for the victims of the NATO bombing in Republika Srpska will be celebrated tomorrow in East Ilidža in the organization of the Committee of the Government of Srpska for nurturing the tradition of liberation wars.
During the NATO operation “Deliberate Force”, 46 members of the Army of Republika Srpska were killed and at least 98 were wounded, as well as five members of the Work Service, advisor to the Minister of Labor and Veterans and Disabled Protection, Milan Torbica, has said today referring to the data of the Republic Center for War Research, War crimes and missing persons.
He added that at least seven civilians were killed in the NATO bombing of Republika Srpska, while at least 21 civilians were wounded.
“The total number of victims of the NATO bombing in Republika Srpska will never be precisely determined, because the population is still dying of malignant diseases as a result of the use of depleted uranium ammunition,” Torbica underlined at a press conference in Banjaluka.
Torbica pointed out that NATO forces dropped a total of 1,026 bombs on Republika Srpska, including 13 Tomahawk cruise missiles, while the total weight of the dropped explosives was around 10,000 tons.
He recalled that the official reason for the bombing of Republika Srpska was the shelling of Sarajevo’s Markale market on August 28, 1995, when UNPROFOR immediately accused Republika Srpska Army, without any evidence.
