The Serbian Patriarch Mr. Porfirije served the Holy Bishop’s Liturgy in the Monastery of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in the village of Medak near Gospić, and after that a memorial service for innocent civilian victims and prisoners of war who died in the Croatian Army’s attack on the Medak Pocket in September 1993.

The operation “Medak Pocket” went down between September 9 and September 17, 1993, and it began with a sudden attack on Serbian villages in the region of the Medak Pocket near Gospić, which had been under the protection of the United Nations for 18 months,

During the attack on the Serbian villages in the Velebit foothills, 88 civilians and prisoners of war were killed after cruel abuse, and their homes and other belongings were burned, destroyed and looted.
