Josip Broz Tito himself was behind the demolition of the Lovćen Chapel, although he was skillfully hiding, said Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral at the commemoration of Njegoš’s Day organized by the Matica srpska – Society of Members in Montenegro.

During the sermon, Metropolitan Joanikije reminded of the terrible event of the demolition of the Lovćen chapel and the desecration of Njegoš’s grave, stressing that it was not the only church destroyed during communism, but that there were many.

The reason for trampling Njegoš’s legacy, Metropolitan Joanikije sees in the fact that in Montenegro they enthroned a false God and created a cult of personality – they worshiped Josip Broz and, thereby, lost their minds, the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral announced.

“They disowned their faith, opinion and conscience and offered all of that as a gift to a false deity, because it is known that the cult of personality makes you out of your mind, devastates the conscience, erases memory. That is exactly what happened. Josip Broz Tito himself was behind the demolition of the Lovćen Chapel, although he hid very skillfully,” said Metropolitan Ioannikije.

Celebrating the birthday of Peter the Second Petrović Njegoš (November 13), the first member of Matica srpska from the territory of today’s Montenegro, was organized by Matica srpska – Society of Members in Montenegro.
